Introduction

This work is one of most interesting images I ever did. The idea was a vision from my mind for abandoned building. I felt that I live inside the design and I worked with every single detail as if it was the design itself. It was very nice journey with the world of textures and lighting. In this small making of I will explain the lighting, texturing and rendering steps/settings taken for creation of this image.

Introduction - The mini taxi project was an old idea in my mind i finally did it. This bitty vehicle used as a taxi in many countries because it is active and inexpensive.  It has many nicknames like Raksha and Tok Tok. The project took me one month of free time to complete it.  The whole project was modeled in 3ds max 2008. Here you can find some of references I collected from many sites on the web during working in this project.

Architectural Details #1: (Part 1) Waterproofing through Design Solutions

One of the problems a building or any structure may encounter during its lifetime is water leaking from the outside. Although there may be a couple of reasons that this may happen, it could have been avoided if it were carefully planned by the architects and the architectural detailers during the early stages of the design.

I have read a book a couple of days ago about controlling water leaks through the details of your design and I want to share with you the ideas presented on the book.

This is the first part of four.  Check the other parts here:

There are three concurrent conditions that enable water to leak or enter inside a building.

3ds Max Shortcuts Customization

3dsmax-keyboard.gifI'll show you how you can create and customize your own 3ds Max Shortcuts.  Although 3ds Max have already assigned default shortcut keys to a lot of its tools and commands, we can still override these settings or assign new shortcut keys to further enhance our work flow while working with 3ds Max.

This is to compliment my last entry, 3ds Max Shortcuts.

3ds Max Shortcuts

3ds-max-shortcuts-01.gifI highly recommend using the 3ds Max shortcuts available for every tool and command rather than pointing and clicking on their respective icons and menus and this is simply because shortcuts access the commands way faster than the point and click method. The difference might just be a few seconds but if you count the number of times you access any tool or command in 3ds Max by pointing and clicking rather than using the shortcut keys in one project, those few seconds add up to minutes or even hours.

Take note that the 3ds Max shortcuts are not case sensitive, so you can use either the lowercase or the uppercase and it would yield the same results.

The image above shows the front side of the Quick Reference Cube that came along with Autodesk 3ds Max 2009.  The other five sides of that cube show the list of default shortcuts of 3ds Max you may use while using the program.

3ds Max Rendering: Office Building Exterior Perspective

office-building-perspective.jpgThis is really not one of my best works but I'm especially proud of this one.  It's an exterior perspective of an office building we were designing in the architectural firm where I'm working at.

If you're also an architect and have worked for an architectural firm for some time, you would understand that some projects can be slow-paced and with a very loose time-frame, while others require you to finish the work as fast as your mind can produce a thought.  Well this project is of the latter type.

Autocad Tips and Tutorials #1: Find and Replace Dialog Box

Have you had an experience in using Autocad where in you've already done a lot of labeling and have added a lot of callouts and text tags in your plans and drawings when you realized that some of the repeating callouts and text tags that you have been putting in all over the drawings were all wrong?  And then you go to all the hassle of going back and forth through your drawings to look for all those wrong texts and correcting them one by one?  Well, it happened to me a few years back when I was labeling all the finishes and specifications on the plans and elevations of a house I was working on in Autocad.  I was almost done with the callouts when I realized my mistake, I had placed a wrong specification for a certain finish I  was planning to use on the house.  The worst part about that is that certain word was scattered and was repeated all over the drawings.  It took me a lot of my time just to go through the drawings again to look for the word and to correct them one by one.   After that experience, I knew that I had to find a faster way to do the corrections if it happens to me again.  It did happen to me again but fortunately I found out about the Find and Replace Dialog Box in Autocad.

Build a House in One Week

Huf Haus in Thames Ditton

This is a very intriguing segment on Discovery Channel's show "How Do They Do It?" I just saw this morning.  It showed how a German company made it possible to build a very decent home in just one week.

Prefabricated housing and the method of prefabrication in construction is not new to me but it always fascinates me every time I see how manufacturer's actually build the prefabricated parts and the actual process of constructing them.  The HUF HAUS company, based in Germany, is a design and construction company and one of the leaders in prefabricated wood construction in Europe.  They were shown in Discovery Channel's show "How Do They Do It?" which showed how they prepared the prefabricated parts and assembled them into one beautiful house.
