A residential complex of interlacing blocks of apartments stacked on top of each other is what you'll probably notice when you see "The Interlace" for the first time. Designed by Ole Scheeren, a partner in OMA, The Interlace has more to offer other than its radical look.

The Interlace is located at the heart of a nine-kilometer greenbelt on an eight hectares lot in the at the southern part of Singapore. Breaking away from Singapore's typical typology of isolated vertical towers, the thirty-one apartment blocks, each six stories high are stacked on top of each other in a hexagonal arrangement. The interlacing and interlocking blocks create communal spaces and opportunities for social interaction.

Careful analysis of the site, sun, wind, and micro-climate conditions were done to utilize the natural environment around the site. Sustainable design approaches were integrated with the project making it efficient to operate. Rooftops are covered in landscaped gardens that seem to extend to the lush greenbelt of parks and pools around the site creating a connection with its surrounding. Interwoven with the lush vegetation around The Interlace are extended residential amenities and facilities that further creates opportunities for social interaction.

With over 170,000 square meters of built floor area and over 1,000 residential units, each with unobstructed views of the parks, city and the sea, the architect's idea of interconnecting with the environment, creating a place for social interactions and the building of communities are all seen in The Interlace.
