New and Improved 3ds Max?

Autodesk has released a statement on their AREA website that they have been planning to redesign and reconfigure 3ds Max to improve its workflow, interface and overall performance.  They are currently calling it the Excalibur or XBR.

Apparently, according to their statement, they have accidentally leaked the information out to the public during the AU 2009 in Las Vegas last December, thus their statements on the web.

Autodesk plans to do this redesign over three phases (not releases), and according to them, 3ds Max 2010 is part of Phase I in which you can already see some changes done with the program.

3ds Max has been one of the biggest names in 3d modeling and 3d rendering software that a lot of users, like me, are a little worried of the change.  Autodesk though assures the public that they are quite confident that when XBR, the fully redeveloped and redesigned 3ds Max, is released, it would be as successful as its predecessors.

Here are the slides that were presented on the AU event released from AREA
