Now who would've thought that a safety device, much like what they use for cars, will someday be available for bicycle riders. Yep, the Swedish company Hovding have developed a head protection gear that shoots out an airbag when you are about to crash.
The developers of this device have developed this bicycle airbags from the technology that is already being used for motorcycle helmets. The collar which you wear on your neck, hides the folded airbag inside. The collar contains accelerometers, which when triggered, deploys the airbag through its small gas generator, enveloping the neck and the head of the user.
The units will be sold at the price of 3000 swedish kronas or US$450 in 2011.
The existing bicycle helmet now seems to become really tacky with this bicycle airbag. Why wear a bicycle helmet that does little to complement your look when you can wear one of these fashionable bicycle airbag collars.
