"Urban Forest": Organic Skyscraper in China

urban-forest-01.jpgThe Urban Forest will soon rise amongst the city skyline in Chongqing, China.  Designed by MAD, this skyscraper was inspired from the mountainous landscapes of China.  It consists of over 70 vertically stacked floors of curved and organic shapes which are connected by a central cylindrical core.

Cité du Design, Saint Etienne, France

This is a €41.5M international competition winner designed by LIN.  It is a new institution for communication, research and education in design opened on the 1st of October 2009.

The project involves the renovation of several historic buildings on the site of the National Arms Manufacture in St. Etienne, France and the integration of a new 200x32m (656x104ft) building - the "platine", a 31m high (101ft) observation tower, two gardens and a public esplanade - the Place d'Armes.

Buckyballs: The Amazing Magnetic Toy You Can't Put Down

buckyballs-magnet-01.jpgHere's an interesting toy I've stumbled upon while surfing the net.  It's called the Buckyballs.

In science, buckyballs are spherical-shaped molecules composed entirely of carbon.  It is also called a spherical fullerene.  Imagine replacing the atoms in the fullerene's molecules with small magnetic balls. What you'll get is the Magnetic Buckyballs.

Burj Dubai, World's Tallest Building, nears Completion

burj-dubai-01.jpgBurj Dubai, the world's tallest building will soon open on the 4th of January, 2010.  The opening date was coincided with the four-year anniversary of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum becoming the ruler of Dubai.

Its architect is Adrian Smith who worked for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill until 2006, and has worked on several skyscrapers in his career as an architect.  Its construction began on the 21st of September 2004 and soon it will be ready for occupancy.

My main tool for modeling was 3dsmax 9. I have made some short movie captures of the scene so you can have a better look at how it looked like.
