A Full Sustainable Designed Solar House

Producing five times the energy it consumes, this house designed by Ralph Disch is a full sustainable design structure he calls the Heliotrope.  It's main source of energy is an array of solar panels placed on top of the roof to convert the sun's rays into energy.

A Wash and Go Laundry Device

This Wash and Go Laundry Device is one of the eight finalists in the Electrolux Designlab 2010 competition.  The competition focuses on the living conditions of people in the year 2050, when it is predicted that a greater population would be living in compact spaces in an urban environment setting.  The winner would be announced by the 23rd of September 2010.

Clogged Downspout No More

Designers at Rain Harvesting Pvt, Ltd, have designed and developed a product that would prevent rainwater downspouts and pipes from clogging due to leaves and other small objects entering the gutter drain.  They call this the Clean Rain.  Its an all-in-one maintenance free rain head, flush diverter and storm overflow in one functional device.

Y Buildings: Stacked Floor Sculptural Design

The Y Buildings, designed by Paul Kaloustian Architects, are located in the district of Ashrafieh, Beirut, Lebanon.  A very modern looking and attractive building, the Y Buildings stand like an art piece in the contemporary world.

World's Largest Clock Ticks for the First Time

The World's Largest Clock finally ticks for the first time last wednesday August 11, 2010 to signal the first day of the fasting month before Ramadan in Saudi Arabia.

Located at the heart of Mecca, close to the Grand Mosque, the royal clock towers the entire city and is said to be seen as far as 19 miles.

Longest Bench Design by Studio Weave

Littlehampton, West Sussex in Britain is home to possibly the Longest Bench in the world.  Designed by Studio Weave, this bench can seat over 300 people and is approximately 324 meters in length.  Part of a large waterfront redevelopment, this bench moves along specific points on the beach, adapting to the contour and its environment.

The Emerson Cup 2010

the-emerson-cup-01.jpgThe Emerson Cup is an annual event celebrating and recognizing some of the outstanding and innovative designs in the HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) industry.  Now on its third consecutive year in India and Southeast Asia, they are now accepting new entries to be nominated for this year's innovative designs.  All are welcome to join including all related fields from engineers, architects, consultants, developers and students.

All entries will be accepted until August 20, 2010.

Basement Waterproofing Basics

From Basement Waterproofing to Above-grade waterproofing and roofing.  This was not really discussed in detail back in college that is why I'm currently going back to the books to learn more.

With all the information I'm getting, there's more to waterproofing than just patching some holes on the wall.

I'll share some of the information I get as I learn more everyday.

Before anything else I'll first share the basic ideas about waterproofing.

A very nice rendering tutorial by Anninos Konstantinos, who won first runner up for the GH House Challenge arranged by Ronen Bekerman.

Anninos Konstantinos did a great job building the scene.  Softwares he used were 3ds Max, Photoshop, Onyxtree, VRay plugin and the Object Painter script.

This is a nice short tutorial written by Luis Linares from Kuan Studio for Ronen Bekerman's blog.  It is an architectural visualization of an exterior shot of a residential house.

The modelling of the house was all done using AutoCad except for the grass part, which was done in 3ds max.  All textures used are VRay Materials and rendered using the VRay Physical Camera.
