Finally a free software that can duplicate the work of some of the high priced commercially available 3d packages like 3ds max and Maya.

Blender, is an open source 3d creation suite that can be used to render graphics and create animations just like any other 3d suites out there.  If you're an architect or interior designer and is currently thinking on buying 3ds max and Vray for your Perspective works, consider looking into using Blender because it's totally free.  Add this to your list of architectural software you already have.

If you want more power and flexibility in modeling than what the free version of Google Sketchup offers, you'll be excited with Blender.  It also has it's own built in rendering system that is very competitive in its quality.

Blender has a lot of features that you're looking for in any 3d suite, like organic modeling, rigging, animation, image compositing and a lot more.

Below are some images modeled and rendered using Blender.

3ds Max: Free Building Generator Maxscript Download

Building-Generator.jpg

My friends and I were planning to make a fly through animation of a city using 3ds Max but we wanted to finish one as soon as possible.  The problem was, we lack enough 3d building structures to populate the city we are visualizing to create, so a Google search for free downloads of 3ds Max building models was in progress.  Luckily, we somehow formulated a good keyword search that lead us to this really amazing 3ds Max tool.  This is the Building Generator created by Tyson Ibele, a 3d animator from Wellington, New Zealand.  It is a 3ds Max tool which creates procedural buildings from a list of user-defined settings.  The best part about it is that it is totally free to download and use.

From Wikipedia - "A greeble or nurnie is a small piece of detailing added to break up the surface of an object to add visual interest to a surface or object, particularly in movie special effects."

This is actually an old plugin for 3ds Max, created by Tom Hudson for creating complex surfaces, that you can download for free.  For those of you who are using 3ds Max and have not yet heard of Greeble, take a look at some of these Greeble art I found on deviantart.  Most of them were done in 3ds Max using the Greeble plugin.

Alternative to Autodesk Autocad

Our company was trying to cut down on expenses and was looking for alternatives to the very much popular Autodesk Autocad.  The cost of one licensed full Autocad is very expensive that it's hard for our growing company to buy more of this software.  Even if you opt to use its lighter and cheaper version which is Autocad LT, the price is still expensive and you don't get the full set of commands and tools that the full Autocad has.  A friend of one of my officemates suggested a very interesting program as an alternative to Autocad and I want to share it with you.

Architectural Softwares

As an architect, I get to use a lot of Architectural Softwares that help me produce the necessary drawings and outputs needed to coordinate work with other people in a particular construction project.  Below are the list of the architectural softwares that I usually use.
